London Fashion Week – emerging designer show highlights

Guest Post Courtesy of : The Glass Pineapple

At The Glass Pineapple, we love emerging and pioneering designers and each season our team of photographers, writers and videographers is at London Fashion Week to capture the highlights. This season we’ve been staying with Merino Hospitality at their Star Yard apartments, just a few minutes walk from both the London Fashion Week site on The Strand and the up and coming shows at Fashion Scout in Freemasons Hall. In total, we’ve covered more than 40 shows – we’ve climbed the stairs of derelict warehouses in skyscraper heels, squashed into the photographer pit at Freemasons Hall and danced in a sea of balloons with the models, all to bring the best of emerging and pioneering fashion talent to our followers. These are a few of our highlights.

Mark Fast

Mark Fast is a luxury knitwear designer with a reputation as something of a pioneer. He is one of the designers responsible for changing perceptions of knitwear, moving it away from twinsets and towards something more daring. AW17 at Mark Fast was striking for its colour and the eclectic richness of the pieces, from long swathes of coloured fringing, to fishnets and opaque blocks. Intricate beading and dramatically feathered hems and sleeves delivered an intense slice of glamour and the colours were high impact, from a mouthwatering purple grape, to a powdery pastel blue.

Krasmira Stoyneva is a super new designer who was selected as part of the Ones to Watch up and coming designers showcase at the Fashion Scout shows this season. Her designs are truly innovative, using synthetic hair to provide the kind of intricate detail and cool modern textures that make collections really stand out. Personally, we loved the layered jackets with the acid bright colours, the inlaid heart motifs and (especially) an ankle length skirt in cascading coloured hair layers.

Pam Hogg

Of all the shows at London Fashion Week, Pam Hogg is the one that attracts the most raucous crowd. This season was no exception with celeb guests ranging from reality stars, to Daniel Lismore, Noel Fielding and photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. On the catwalk the stars were bright too, from Fern Cotton in white vinyl, to Charlotte Delall in a show stealing creation, intricately netted at the back. The stand out pieces from this show for us were the super-sequined looks that were almost blinding in their brightness, and the signature Hogg catsuit.

One of the newer designers on the main London Fashion Week schedule, Minki brought a sense of youthful exuberance and playfulness to his presentation for AW17. We especially loved the fishhook print on fluid silk that was worn by a model who couldn’t stop dancing. Bold, bright colours and plenty of nautical stripes gave the collection a real sense of the sea – appropriate really as the theme was ‘gone fishin.’

So, those are our highlights for AW17 from London Fashion Week and the team at The Glass Pineapple, most of whom are currently enjoying some down time back at Merino Hospitality apartments – a cold glass of wine and kicking off those fashion week heels. Bliss.
